I Got Lucky Today

>Arrived at work early to work on the boat project to find my path blocked by a hemlock that fell during last night�s rain:

Missed my fancy electric gate by a whole 24 inches. Two weeks work saved.

Made short work of my split-rail horse stile, tho:

Funny, I had thought about that ahead of time and knocked down all suspect trees before building that gate�but this one musta been hiding.

Naturally, the big saw and backhoe were a quarter mile+ down the blocked road�.but 30 minutes worth of work brought all back to normal�minus a couple rails:

Yup�was feeling real lucky�then I locked all my keys in the shop when putting the saw away�

�and guess where the bolt cutters are?

I'm not a horse person, so the Horse Stile is a bit puzzling. Obviously, the gate is to keep four wheeled vehicles out, but is the stile to let the horses in, or to somehow to confuse them and keep them out, like one of those crooked Chinese bridges, that keeps the evil spirits out?

I lost a limb in a storm last night too, from a sycamore. It missed the next door neighbor's car by less than yours missed your gate. I cut mine up with a bowsaw.

>Thanks. That's about what I figured. The horses can easily navigate the stile, but it keeps all but the largest and most determined pickups from going around the gate.

What kind of actuators on that gate?

>...and are they solar powered, or did you run 220 out there? Just curious. We used to make a lot of driveway gates in the good old days.

The power necessary to trickle charge the nicad battery can be provided by solar or a tiny, 16ga wire running over distance.

Northern Tool sells them.
