So I told SWMBO I needed planes

jim_reed@marietta

>During dinner tonite there was a lull in the conversation so I blurted out--"This is why I need more planes. Look at the scrapes and scabs on my hands." I have been planing the inside of my desk carcass. The sides are figured wood and are not exactly flat. No problem on the outside, but the drawers are a bit picky. Trying to use a 5 1/4 as a miter plane will cause some nasty scrapes. I could put the thing sideways on my bench, but it is pretty heavy and this looked easier. I think it was the slight smile that gave me away, but SWMBO almost snorted a french fry thru her nose as she laughed and called me a *plane weasel*. At least I tried.

>Forget Toolaholics Anonymous, I think there is a wider demand for ToolLovers who suffer from ridicule and dissrespect! All of your examples and mine prove it.

LOML and I were at the LV flagship store shopping for Gardening accessories. LOML realised how much she was spending and suggested that I could get a tool if it would help me.

That Bullnose was looking like it might need a new home. Until... she lowered the boom, the tool was to help me do the gardening!

We get no respect!

>And Carolyn thought I was joking when she asked why I was buying so many tools. Cuz before I marry you I need to buy a lifetime supply of everything.

>You've got to work on how you time things. I put a small deposit on a fine flat-side #604, finished the raised panel 2 drawer full extension slide file cabinet she wanted, and THEN went & snagged the plane to "use to make the bathroom wall cabinet" she wants.

>Jim, I hope this doesn't mean that you'll stop making blades? Man , I've got to get a list out to you for some of the new old planes that I've picked up. You still make the best blades around.

>I was there just a couple of days ago and looked at the Veritas tool display and didn't see one... where is it?

Of course I was actually there to look at the turkish grill. It was too big. It has to be the first time I ever visited without buying anything (let alone under $100).

Robin, your store is failing!!!! I didn't buy anything!!! You got get more stuff out to touch and feel. And support the Ottawa woodworkers group...we gotta mailing list and everything! Oops, got distracted...

>Didn't you tell her you need a specalized plane to ease the edges of the garden stakes? Or a spoke shave to custom fit the handles to her hands? Come on Your not thinking hard enough! After all if a #8 is a chese slicer than you can surely use a hand plane in the garden. I can see using that sholder plane with the hole in it to tie to a rope to throw over a tree limb that needs trimmed off. Use your imigination man. She said get a tool!

>Steve,

That is also what we were called at my house until my LADS (Loving and Doting Spouse) blurted out in another dyslexic fit, "Weed-Gooks". Ya' gotta love it!

I need to let her read this thread so she knows I'm not alone....

>SWMBO knows that with my farming background that I can use my imagination to accomplish pretty much anything in the garden.

Although one of those shoulder planes with a rope tied through the hole might persuade the squirrel that at one of my Purple Coneflowers to dine elsewhere!!!!
