>Hi all,
I am a new woodworker and have made a few decent projects with powertools. I am now standing on the edge of the slippery slope with a desire to use hand tools in more of my projects.
My father gave me the pictured tools which he found in the shed of a house he inherited. The top saw appears to be rip saw and it has a medallion with EC Simmons Keen Kutter. The bottom saw has much finer teeth and has a much thinner blade. It is missing its medallion along with another screw in the handle.
Are the saws worth restoring? What is the best way to remove the rust? Should I try to sharpen them myself? Or, should I just hang them on the wall and buy new saws?
The plane is a Craftsman which I intend to tune and use. It is just over 14 inches long and just over 2.5 inches wide. It is corrugated on the bottom and the sides. Is it worth restoring?
My wife said I can buy a LN rabetting block plane for my birthday/father's day present. I intend to add a #4 or #4.5 either LN or LV as funds allow.
