Hello -- My name is Roy, and I'm a tooloholic.

Roy from Cincy

>There! I admitted it. I know the first step to a cure is admitting you have a problem. I've been attending your meetings here for some time, but I've been sitting in the back. I've never had the courage to speak up before, but you all seem so happy, so well adjusted, and so far along toward a cure.

I just hope you can stand by me and give me strength when I'm feeling weak. I've been trying on my own. I haven't bought a plane in over three weeks. Well, I did buy one last week at the garage sale. Well, actually two if you count that little block plane. But it was so small. It didn't really count.

Then, of course, there are the saws. It started years ago when I found that Diston single buck timber saw that no one had ever heard of. I loved it's smell. I loved the feel of it in my hand. I knew I had to have more.

And my wife, she's no help. "Father's day is coming up, hon. Go ahead and buy that Ryobi saw." Behind every tooloholic is an enabeler. That's why I need all of you to give me strength.

And it's working. I needed all of my strength at the flea market when I picked up that saw with the cute panther head carved into the handle. It was only $5. What could it hurt? But thinking of all of you here and your commitment to the 12 step program gave me the strength to walk away. Thanks.

>Little hint Roy, you are perfectly sane.

The rest of us seem normal, but that is only because we have all dropped over the edge and gone crazy.

We are all crazy, that is why we all seem so normal. But you, Roy, are normal. That is why you are going so crazy.

Just wait until you start justifing your purchases with the idea of re-selling on eBay. You don't have a real problem, until you justify yourself into a real problem.

NOBODY so far has a real problem,

>except maybe money or storage space!

Now, when you start buying unusable planes for parts you MIGHT need at a later date, but until then, you're OK.

Cure?

Todd O. Cronkhite Native of Maine

>The only cure I am aware of is death, and I'm in no hurry to be cured. ;~)

I wouldn't worry about this addiction Roy as there are far worse addictions to have. At least with this one if nothing else you can get most of your money back if not more and that AFTER you've enjoyed the tools for years and years. That's like a sore wee-wee-- you can't beat it.

Passing on a Panther head? Bro, you are crazy. ;~)

>Todd, you owe me a new key board and monitor if I can't get all of this beer off the keys and monitor screen. However, I'll settle for the panther saw. LOL

Now just wait a guldarned minute here... 'Unusable planes for

parts' are better described as parts planes and of course you are

going to buy them if they are cheap enough. You'll want a supply of

lever caps, chipbreakers, those little brass knob thingies on the

ends of the tote and knob screws, y-adjusters, totes, knobs, frogs

and so on. 'Cause sooner or later you will run across a Type 11

low-knob 3C with a missing part and you will ruthlessly haggle down

the price of the plane to chump change secure in the knowledge that

you have just the spare part in your inventory.

Parts is parts.

Tim of San Leandro

>I like tools, don't get me wrong. I love fine tools.

but I think I've overdone the wood....400 sq ft garage shop with about 1000bf of various woods stocked in there.

These are the woods I can remember I have:

Amapola, Angico, alder, poplar, white oak, red oak, hard maple, euro beech, madrone, black walnut, jatoba, purpleheart, port orford cedar, genuine mahogany, south american alder (I've no idea on this one...it is just what the lumberyard called it....it is QS and looked interesting and the price was right)....and the requisite construction grade stuff..I gotta do home improvement stuff too!

On the neverending quest for wood.

>I a Dump-Pick'aholic, I have Dump stick'as for Three (3) town dumps. the Best one I attend meetings at three (3) days a week, twice a day ( Once on the clock, once on my way home).

Even after spending two weeks of moving, I'm still pick'n.

There was a still unindentied Aktins saw, the hand full of bits, hand tools and files, and ANOTHER cabinet.

At least mine additions doesn't cost me any money (Now that I'm moved in)
