Stanley 45 blade grind angle

>I just got an old model 45 and some un-used blades. It appears that the original grind angle is 35 degrees. Is this the correct grind angle?
I did sharpen the 3/16 straight cutter at 35 and it seems to work great.

>on a few variables. The softness of blade metal and the hardness of wood both help to determine the proper angle. Lower angles 25-30 degrees seem to work for me. If your steel is a bit soft, the blade will nick and dull quickly. As long as everything works OK, you angle is appropriate. Now, make some shavings!

>Thanks for the answer. It seemed strange to me that the factory grind was at 35 degrees instead of the 25 to 30 that I am used to with other tools. It seemed to work well in a quick test in some alder. I will experiment with some maple (my "standard" wood) and see what happens.
