Question about Record 044 Plough plane

I picked up a Record 044 off EBay recently and I received it yesterday (finally). It's a user that has lost some plating and has certainly seen better days. But it is complete and quite functional. I have a Record 043 and an 050 and I compared it to them.
I noticed that the plane seems to look as if it's made differently from the others.
There is a sticker on the box lib that reads:
"The Ministry of Supply Order 1951 No 1048 prohibits the use of Nickel Plating on Planes, and an alternative Metal Plating is now used."
Fair enough...Funny thing though... on the outside label and on the inside label it says it's nickel plated. I will assume that the sticker on the lid was added to correct the info on the label.
So the question is, what is the alternative metal plating used? I know that in WWII, Record planes had different plating (Cadmium?) since Nickel was in short supply. But the sticker lists this as a 1951 order, long after WWII.
Any clues?
