I posted waaaay over a month ago with my efforts

in dovetailing: here.

I finally had enough cumulative time to get a box together, and get a lid on (still have to cut it off, finish and do something with the inside). After this episode, I don't think that dovetails are so hard. I do still have a few gaps from not being terribly adept with the chisel... practice.

Thanks for the advice I got. Most paid off, though I did cut the pins and tails too long and had to plane them down a tad (which is how most people do them anywy).

How long to cut them? I didn't really pay all that much attention to the timing, but i think that the first corner was the longest. From that I could almost mark where the others should be and cut three sides at a time. Probably not less than 4 hours to cut and another 2 months to figure out what else I was going to do after that.... and how the glueup would go. Spent time cutting some cauls, that I later decided were a waste of time for such a small joint, so a couple of handscrews and assorted other clamps did the job.

It is much faster with a router for the moment.. but I currently am not interested in the speed, just getting it right.
