L. Bailey patent numbers

Tom MacGregor, Vermont

>I've found lists of Leonard Bailey's patents back to 1867, but his first one was in 1855 & you can't search the Patent Office records back that far without a patent number. I specifically want to look at one from August 1858. I got a #12 style scraper with that date on the brass adjuster knob, but the small size and shape of the base and placement of the adjuster post under the handle instead of at the edge of the sole doesn't match any type studies I've seen so far. Any ideas, anyone?

>Walters says in his Stanley guide book that type one No. 12 planes dating from 1869-75 have the 8/31/1858 patent date on the adjuster. I have one like this and have seen more then a few others.I'm not saying that Walters is wrong but I sort of have a hard time believing that all these planes are 125 + years old...but again i don't know for certain.....Todd
