>yep, it's SB. It is a relatively new plane. Just a couple of years old. I never really liked it so I am trying to pass it on.

>OK. Don't know for sure this is the answer, but a bit of Googling appears to indicate that Stanley bought out the Bostitch line of tools and is marking some of those with SB numbers. Couldn't specifically find an SB4 plane as such a former Bostitch tool, but - - -. I'd guess the SB stands for something like Stanley Bostitch? Bob

They are extremely common in the UK in the DIY stores. Both the SB3 and SB4 are cheap and sold in large numbers. They make a good scrub plane - that is all I would use them for or for removing old paint from wood.
