I spoke with Tom L-N today and stopped by the shop this afternoon. He would be glad to make up some 7 1/2s with an adjustable mouth. He would inlet a precision machined piece that would slide in a recess in the bottom to provide adjustability and would be held in place with screws. He isn't going to do it on current 7 1/2s because he would prefer more metal in the area of the mouth to cut away and inlet the piece. He is making a new casting which will be thicker in that critical area to facilitate this modification. He also told me that he is decreasing the mouth opening on all future 7 1/2s, whether modified for adjustability or not. He anticipates the new casting will be ready later in June and then he can begin creating these adjustable mouth 7 1/2s. He doesn't have a firm price yet but it will probably be around $50 (in addition to the cost of the plane) or perhaps a bit more depending on how things go.
