Making plane Irons

Jim in Burlington Ontario

>So I gave it a go and made a #8 and a scrub plane iron. I cut the slot by drilling several holes hacksawing and filing. It took 3 hours and I work at a very slow place. Drilling the holes at the lowest speed I snapped a cheap pilot hole drill bit and used silver and Deming to drill the other holes. Now I need a few new chip breakers. Does any one know what kind of tap I need to make the treads? Thanks Jim
