Split drawer fronts and half pin Q?

>You guys have much luck gluing split drawer fronts. Split the corner on a half blind drawer front yesterday, right where the half pin ends. A small split, but all the way through. Worked some glue in it, clamped it and looks fine now. But will it last or split somewhere else?

Also what is recommended min width of the half pin. I did 1/8in at the bottom of the half pin, right where it split. Go larger?

>More important would be why the joint failed, was the fit a little too tight between that pin/tail? My best teacher has been looking closely at lots of old furniture to see what others have done and especially how joints fail.

In any case the half pins at the ends of a case can be fairly small, I don't have problems with half pins that are 1/8" at the narrow end which may be and often are significantly wider than the interior pins.

>Sometimes the fit is ok you just put it in a tad crooked and it splits. I usually put a clamp on now after tearing a few half tails off. Perfect fit is great but I'm not that far along maybe another 10 years or so.
