What is this brace extension for?

>The chain wraps around a beam and hooks back into the little notch you see opposite of where the chain is attached to the extension, and pulls the bit into the wood. The center section of the extension is threaded, and the section where the chain is attached will screw upwards as the brace is turned. If you look carefully in my shop shots tool box you'll see one hanging in the top right corner; never used it. ;)

Would have come in handy for me exactly three times in the past ~18 months, drilling out waste in trestle bases. Still want one anyway; I'm sure Moses' looks good just hanging on the wall to menace any lumber that may be getting ideas about making a break for it....
