Layout of Dovetails for large work

>I know how to layout dovetails for drawers via the Rob Cosman method. But how do you do it for a large box. I have 14" wide pine and want to make a treasure box. I can't see how to evenly do it after trying on a few scrap boards.

>I tried it about 10 times and everytime you go to gauge the pin with when laying out the tails it extends over the end of the piece.
