If.... inspiration required

CONGER - The Irish diaspora in Munich

>If you were approaching 50 (years.. not mph), and you knew that there was a treat in store - toolwyse, for the 'pampered' hand tool only woodworker... what would it be?

Hints.. must be useful, no rust, no sparks, tendency to planes - candidate pines for a smoother - an infill?

Ohhh, the budget...hmmm -- not no-name class, and not Holtey class.

>I got a really nifty post card of the Ray Isles reproduction Norris infill, and I put it on the refrigerator a couple months before Christmas two years ago. Imagine my excitement when it disappeared three weeks before Christmas! Well, that was a false alarm.

Then just in time for my 55th I got a post card of the LN 4 1/2. I thought one of these with the high angle frog would be just nifty, and half the price of the Norris repro. Well, that one was still up there on the refrigerator this weekend, and I've been 55 for a month now. I ended up pinning it up on my shop wall Saturday. *sigh*

>The Shepherd kits to build your own infill smoother is on my list of must have eventually. I had the opportunity once to plane with a well made infill, and it is a whole different ball game. The Shepherd link is somewhere on the site yet I think, if you can't find it I'll look it up for you. Their kits are very reasonably priced in my opinion; you don't get something for nothing but it looks like a great value to me.

What a problem!

>When is your birthday? I will turn 50 in October.

I second the vote for an already-built Shepherd smoother.
