Six-board chest - Progress *Pics*

Scott in Douglassville, PA

>Well, after three tries spanning almost five years, too many warped panels to count, and a very bad emergency room trip, I've assembled the stinkin' six-board:

The assembly was fairly uneventful (with one notable exception: I bumped my off finger, sending the pins in it deeper in, something that happens often. However, when I pulled the splint back like I always do, the pins pulled out about 1/4" or so. Panicing, I shoved 'em back. Hand's hurting now...), only one of the few dozen cut nails caused a very minor split, and the whole thing was actually fun.

BTW, some have questioned why I decided to milk paint the interior. Here's a before shot:

I sealed the panels (which went back to flat all by themselves), with a coat of spray polycrylic, rubbed out with a cloth after about 10 seconds. Sealed the paint, gave it a nice satin finish, and removed most of the excess. There's no smell left.

Thanks for the help so far.

Very handsome

>Scott,

Some friendly advice: Don't push the pins back in. You're likely to increase the chances of infection. Ask your doctor what to do if it happens again. Maybe they can fashion some sort of guard to prevent these little mishaps and keep your pain level to a low roar. Keep up the nice work.

>Nice work, Scott, I love Shaker style pieces. I can't wait to see a pic of the finished piece.
