>George, it's a nice site. I think you should reconsider your frequent use of the words "Fine Woodworking" as it gives the impression that your school is affiliated with Taunton Press -- they might get upset about that. At the very least you should not capitalize the words. (If you have spoken with Taunton about this and they don't mind, or if you are in fact affiliated with Taunton, please disregard.)

>For a first draft it sure looks nice. Loads fast. Not too graphics intensive, fonts are neat clean easy to read (@ 800x600 true-color, in NN7.1).

As this is a business that you wish to attract customers via the internet, I would suggest you research "page ranking" and "search engine optimization" There are a number of techniques that will put your site near the top of a search. As mentioned before "fine woodworking" will probably return pages and pages of Taunton sites. If you concentrate your verbage on words that are specific to your mission you will be rewarded. Place your mission statement in a META TAG on the index page. I realize that you're a woodworker but attracting customers is part and parcel of your new business.

If your webhost offers statistics, be sure to check what resolution the majority of customers are using and code to that.

One more suggestion: change the source code of your email address to a java-based display. Spammers can easily harvest an address coded as yours has been done.

Looks like a site that will be easy to navigate; and that's not an easy accomplishment.

Good luck!

Dan.

>Hi Dan,

Could you give more detail about "hange the source code of your email address to a java-based display"? -- I get a lot of spam and I figure half of it comes from robots swiping it off my web page -- I'd love to know a way to prevent that from happening.

Its a Javascript solution ...

>I am unable to cut/paste the code as this site "executes" it...

I'll see if I can find a link for the technique.

>George,

You've spent a fair bit of time on it and it looks good.

My only issue is from a dial-up perspective - the pics on the front page total 155kB, which meant that it took a minute plus to download - for someone casually surfing looking for a site, you'd lose them if they were in the slightest bit impatient.

Any chance of reducing picture dpi without compromising the message you're trying to get across?

Just a thought,

Andrew
