>I have an ECE Primus Improved smoother. Has anyone had trouble with the lateral adjuster? I cannot seem to keep the blade from getting skewed when I advance it, and the regulator seems pretty useless. Any advice? Thanks.

I always do the lateral adjust on the Primus by hand. Infills the same way.

>Like Wiley, I adjust by hand. I set it after it's almost tight in the body, then give it a final adjustment and a final tightening. It's more like a firm squeeze in one direction to get it just so rather than a sideways push. Gets to be a natural and largely unconscious thing. I use two planes and two pairs of irons -- two are very slightly radiused (more like an idea of being radiused), and the other two are dead straight with lightly killed corners. The straight ones get most of the adjusting. One person I know uses little micarta wedges to lock in the lateral adjustment.
