>Hi folks,

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this here? I tried looking for some "rules and regulations" to this board but I haven't found any as yet, so here goes.

I'm setting up a new message board devoted primarily to hand planes and all that they entail (I may include spokeshaves as well. Haven't decided yet). I've roughly set out the main topics but I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

>Cameron, our FAQ's, linked to the left on the Navigation Bar, are available for inspection at all times. They include a prohibition against unsolicited commercial postings.

But let's not get off on the wrong foot. This forum has no rule prohibiting references to, or invitations from, other forums. We are what we are and welcome our readers to decide where to spend their time. Most, including me, check other forums often. And we maintain close relationships with readers, administrators, and hosts of other forums. That commraderie is what woodworking brings out in people.

So let me wish you the very best with Handplanes. It's a wonderful field, one of my personal favorites, that brings much helpful, valuable, or even comical information to light here on Hand Tools. I hope your readership comes to develop such a strong sense of community as we all hold dear here on WoodCentral.

Best, Ted

>Ahhh, that would explain it. I don't actually have a "left" cause I switched to no frames - therefore I have no navigation, as such, apart from the message links and a link box up the top (where preferences are). I'll re-load the main woodcentral.com URL and check out what I've been missing.

Having said all of that I apologize for posting without understanding the rules and I thank you for your very understanding and polite post. A lot of moderators I know would not give someone like me a fraction of the understanding that you extended to me. I appreciate that a lot!

Thanks also for the good wishes regarding my new board.

>I agree with the comraderie sentiment, Ted. I've got a lot out of woodworking (and woodworkers) over the years and I always like to give back.

I've just started a new "quickie project" on the new board which I hope to have finished in the next day or two (though I'm getting a bit sleepy now so I might go to bed a bit earlier). Basically I'm turning an old Stanley # 5 into an infill style mitre plane and taking a few pictures of the results and the work in progress. I also plan to have a few more of these type projects in the weeks to come.

Thanks also for posting the very first message on my board, Ted :-)

I kinda suspected...

>that was the first message. It's my pleasure to be the first to wish you the very best.

And from now on, I'll sign my messages there simply as Ted Owen, Pittsburgh. : )

Best, Ted

P.S. I didn't notice anything on spokeshaves but may have missed it. They're so closely related to hand planes that you might enjoy including a section for them.
