Some choices....
Wiley Horne--Glendora CA
>1. Vintage western chisels.....search Ebay under names like Witherby, Swan, Barton, and there are others.
2. Woodcraft has Barr Framing chisels for $100. 1-1/2" (#145010) or 2" (145009). Come with ring, but could easily be used for paring.
3. www.misugidesigns.com (see woodworking page 5), and www.hidatool.com (see Fujihiro brand) have Chuttaro Imai 14" white steel push chisels, 36mm, for $89.
4. www.hidatool.com has Funahiro 36mm for $156.
5. www.japanesetools.com has Tasai 36mm chisels as follows:
Verithin...$117 if red oak handle avail.
Std............ 148 if red oak handle avail.
6. Also check with Joel at Museum of Woodworking Tools for his Nishiki brand. He has thin paring chisels.
Am sure there are other choices which folks can fill in--these are the ones that come to mind. I like the Japanese paring slicks really a lot, but you won't go wrong with Barr either.
