Bevel on New Veritas Spokeshaves

Sanford Levy

>Hi! I just bought the new veritas spokeshaves -- I have never had spokeshaves before and have a question about them. They came with a 30 degree bevel and what seems to be a five degree microbevel. (First new tool I ever bought with a microbevel already on it!) Is that good for a spokeshave? Does it matter whether the wood I use it on will be hard or soft? A related question: any suggestions for honing such a tiny blade? I am not very good at doing it by hand and am planing on just making a little jig to help hold the little guys in my veritas honing guide. Thanks for any advice. Sanford

>If you click on the "instr" link at the bottom of this page Lee Valley gives details of a convenient short blade holding jig. If ya' don't feel like making one, they'll gladly sell a rather fancy one.
