I saw a mention on another board, and hit two of the big orange boxes this afternoon. Bought a number of clamps that would be an embarrassment - anywhere but here.

I did indeed - I bought over 50 clamps yesterday alone. (!!!) I only went to two HDs - the one by the Falls and the one at 8 St.
Don't bother with the HD at US1 and 136 St. - I went through that one like Sherman through Georgia. All that's left there are the small lightweight 2.5x8 and 2.5x4s.
My shop landlord said he found a good selection at a 'new' HD up near NW 40 St. (pretty far from you, I know). And, at the HD near SW 27 Ave and Calle Ocho, the wall rack is almost empty, but there were still lots of them in the boxes up above the panel.
Good luck! I found none of the UniKlamps (the po' man's K-body type) at either of these locales, so if you find any of those, give me a cell call from the store? I may ask you to pick me up a few (if there are any left after you make your selections).
