Woodsmith owns Bridge City Tools

>Have no idea, opinions, etc. about Woodsmith or Bridge City Tools squares. But The Woodsmith company, August Home Publishing I think is its official name, bought Bridge City Tools last year. So now I can go into my local Woodsmith and see the Bridge City Tools low angle smoother and other BCT tools and look at them in the display case. My personal opinion is the Lie-Nielsen low angle smoother looks better than the BCT low angle smoother. Even with the double dovetails in the BCT. The BCT low angle smoother looks too angular. Its lines are not smooth and flowing. I know your question was about squares but hey.

This is a limited edition. Orders need to be in by April 15th and will go out June 15th. This offer is supposedly only for subscribers.

It said that response was larger than expected, palced my order in late March, but well before the April deadline.

The original ad gave me the impression that they would not start the special run until the deadline, so it has me wondering.

Someone said on boards that Woodsmith and Brass City Toolworks were the same company, so I assumed that Brass City would be making the squares. My notice, the only one so far said early July, is that what yours says?

I have ordered other items that have been out of stock, and received notices giving me the option of canceling when the 30 day limit could not be met. If I really wanted the item, I ignored the offer to cancel.

I think, but I am not sure, that is what may be happening in this case.

I, too, am waiting for a set of Woodsmith Squares. I hope they are as good as the digital photo.

Based upon personal experience, Bridge City @ times does run into delivery problems. There is a great deal of handwork involved w/ their tools. And they don't have a large workforce. Another factor is that the owner John Economaki is a stickler for quality.

Last year, Bridge City Tools had an open house & a tool sale, as well as tours of the manufacturing end of the company. I was surprised @ the handwork involved & attention to detail.
