Spam problems?

Ellis Walentine

>It seems we now have at least three different posters whose messages are coming through with these spam attachments that I just deleted. Let's keep an eye on this one. I have no reason to believe that it is a problem with our software, since everyone would be experiencing the problem. But, we can't rule anything out. I'm having my server folks look things over. I'll let you know if anything suspicious turns up.

Meanwhile, Jim and Ben, please try this for me if you would: Try to post another message, but this time hit the Preview message key first and scroll down to see if something has autocompleted your text boxes at the bottom of the page. (The ones that say Optional Link URL and Optional Link Title and Optional Image URL.) If so, try deleting the contents of those three boxes and then hit Preview again and check it out.

This sounds like some kind of Trojan. I've only seen one instance of it before, and that was the other day on the Messages board. Same deal, unsuspecting poster, same nasty URL. We'll figure it out.

Ain't it wonderful what we have to go through to use these infernal machines?

Let me know what you find out.

Ellis

Browser specific?

Ellis Walentine

>Jim and Ben, if you have Netscape or another browser on your computer, could you try posting a message through one of those browsers. My server guys tell em that auto-complete is a function of Internet Explorer only.

Keep in mind that this is only a theory. Maybe this has nothing to do with auto-complete, but, as Dan suggested, we'd like to know if there is any browser specificity here.

Thanks,

Ellis

Hi Ellis

Jim Shaver Oakville, Ont

>Hi,

The problem this afternoon happened when I posted from work...I know, I know...

I'll try in the morning, with pre view as well.

Thanks for your patience and attention, it was very alarming to see what linked to my post...and thanks to Rob Lee for the quick and timely email to alert me to the problem...

Take care,

Jim
