Long time no see (with project photo) *LINK*

Chandler Bryan, SC

>Hi folks... I haven't been around in a long time, good to see the old familiar names still here. I've been awfully busy, though not with woodworking so much. With one big exception... I whipped this out in about 4 and 1/2 months of spare time and weekends. It's as faithful in construction and electronics to a Gibson Les Paul as I could make it, with mahogany body and neck, maple top, and ebony fretboard. I made it from scratch... raw boards and fretwire. I'm astonished at how well it turned out, and wonder of wonders it even plays great (and sounds awesome). For lots more pictures and full details of construction including in-progress photos, see my website using the link below. However, be warned that Geocities has a limit on hourly views, so if a bunch of folks hit it all at once it may shut down for a while.

Thanks for looking!

Chandler

>Hey, Chandler, nice to see your name again!

Beautiful guitar. If that's what you can "whip out," I suspect I'd be awed by what you could do if you took your time.

>Very interesting site you've created, Chandler -- I enjoyed checking it out. Thanks.

Nice guitar! Looks a lot like one played by a Mr. James Patrick Page.

All you need is......

Bill Ward

>Chandler, it's a beauty!! All you need now is some Ernie Ball Super Slinky's, a vintage Arbiter Fuzz Face and Fender Twin Reverb (tubes of course!!!).

No, I was shooting for a late-50s standard. I strayed with the fretboard (ebony instead of the usual rosewood) and the pearl inlays (square like a Custom rather than trapezoid/crown shaped). The reason for that was that ebony is nicer and not significantly more expensive, and the Custom-style pearl inlays were available pre-cut as a set (also I like the look!).

>D'Addario EXL120s and a 1972 Silverface Super Reverb work fine for me!

Tubes of course...amen!

>That'll work! My Twin Reverb would be (long gone) just a few years older than your Super. I'm guessing more like 1969, but it was a silverface like yours. Parked mine on top of homemade (junior high woodshop) Dual Showman bottom. Music store in Chicago sold black Tolex, Fender grille cloth (black or silver) and all Fender cabinet hardware. Had to see the back to tell it was a fake.

>I believe you may have inspired me to finally resurrect my guitar building plans. I've had the hardware sitting in a drawer for a couple of years now, and even have a neck, but haven't gotten around to getting the rest of it done. Maybe now I will.

Thanks.
