Can't Find - Lathe "Spindle Tools"

>I'm trying to see if a specific tool still exists. And I was referred over here by the guys on the turning forum.

Over 20 years ago, I went to an Industrial Arts Exhibition in Washington state. I saw a cutting tool for use on a lathe that consisted of a vertical spindle , or rod with a slot mortised into it about mid length, into which a cutting bit is installed. The tool was then set on an extended lathe bed or bench and leaned into the rotating wood product on the lathe. It transfered a lot of the rotational stresses down through the spindle or rod, thus making it MUCH less abusive to the turner.

Some on the turning forum think it is some type of duplication tool, but it is not. It replaces your gouges and tool rest.

Anyone ever seen one?

Thanks for your help.
