Tonight's chat - mature finishes

I have known folks who were never satisfied with their finish results, no matter what products and method they used. I have suspected that this is because what they were looking for was a mature looking finish. The type of thing you see on high end factory furniture or older quality furniture.
I though it might be interesting to start our chat tonight with these finishes as the subject.
Since they require the use of glazes (scumble) it is natural to expect the conversation to wonder in the direction of faux finishing.
