Major Starrett Gloat + Deal 4 You *LINK*

Greg Phillips, Medford, OR

>I just got off the phone with the CS counter for Starrett Tools. I was poking around their web site last night and came across an overstock/discontinued discount section. They have six 60" straightedges that they are closing out for $160 each. They are the 385 series--beveled one edge with no graduations. This is a killer deal. I wasn't able to determine a retail price on the 60", but the 48" sells for about $220 and the 72" sells for about $420. Anyway, now that I have mine ordered, I thought I'd send out a shout. I don't expect they will last long.

I wish I would have known about this site a bit earlier. Last month they were closing out a 6" machinist's vise for $200 that retails for $1600. The CS rep said that someone posted on a metalworking forum and they were gone within a day or so.

Good luck. BTW, the usual disclaimers apply. No affiliation, etc. Just happen to think that Starrett tools are the best.

Cheers,

Greg

They are indeed mighty fine tools.

An unqualified "The Best", may be stretching it, both now and historically.

>There were 5 of the straightedges left about 15 minutes ago, and now 4 I suppose. These things weigh 18 lb, if that makes a difference to you. Thanks for the heads up, Greg!

>Hey Steve,

Weren't you recently shopping a forked-tail jointer over on the other side? Sounds like the Starrett might be just the tool for you to check the accuracy of your new jointer's tables and get them set up correctly. Maybe you really do need a new straightedge! Oh well, just playing around wid ya!

All Gone

Greg Phillips, Medford, OR

>Just looked at the inventory on the Starrett web site. Looks like all six are gone now. Apparently a few others thought it was a good deal, too.

Cheers,

Greg
