>A while back there was an exchange bemoaning the fact that quality ruled squares were hard to find unless one wanted to float a home loan and get one from Bridge City. The recent Manny's Woodworkers Place (800 243 0713) catalog lists a ruled rosewood and stainless steel square, that looks to be or exceptional quality, made by the company that makes Bridge City squares. Price ranges from $13 to $29 for sizes 3 to 12", or a set of 4 for $75.

If you are not familiar with Manny's , it is a woodworking book Mecca in Lexington , KY.

I have visited Bridge City Tool Works in Portland and am under the impression that they make all of their own products in-house, including all of their own milling. This was several years ago. Are they farming out work now?

Otherwise, just use a "plain" square, which are (of course) commonly available in both new and vintage versions.
