>Well I got my dismal project done. Here's my shop cat Shadow's box for his ashes. He had cancer and was put down before Christmas. Not a happy time for me. He'd been my best buddy for 16 years and a great gopher (among other critters) hunter. I miss him greatly. The picture does not really do the box justice. It's curly (QS) Koa with a Walnut top and Ebony inlay. The inside is lined in Purple Heart, because he deserved it. The finish is Danish oil with wax. Thanks for looking, Scott

I dont get over here much at all, (too much time on the other side of the island ya know)...but I really like that box....and of koa even....nice.

Sorry to hear about Shadow....Im sure when one of my cats go it will be hard on me as well.

My 15-year-old cat died the other year, and I kept catching myself thinking it was time to feed her, or I'd pass by her special place and think I saw her out of the corner of my eye.

Now, down to woodworking business. How is the top attached to the box? Does the liner just extend upward beyond the opening seam into the top? I have been putting off making a couple of these to replace cardboard boxes. :-(

>Thats how the tops attached. Here in earthquake country I will have to seal it up or permently attach the top. Thanks for your understanding. I've seen him walk by the shop doors 3 times now out of the corner of my eye. Have a hard time eating chicken now 'cause I have no one to share it with anymore.

Thanks for sharing... my heart goes out to you. I thought of you last week. My little three legged helper was in the shop with me last week buried in a pile of maple shavings. Company makes time in the shop all that much more fun.

The box seems to be a great tribute to a wonderful comrade.

That is a marvelous box for Shadow. I think you found a nice combination of color and figure in the woods you chose. Well done.

After a while you should find a kitten that needs a good home. The new kitten won't ever replace Shadow but will love you in its own way.
