>After using my Stanley 51 for about an hour today I came to 2 realizations. First, the throat clogs every 2-3 pulls and second, the handles are darn uncomfortable for my hands. Anyone with any experience with Dave's Shaves have any feedback on these 2 issues? I'm trying to decide between this and the Vertias low angle.
>I have also built several shaves using these instructions, but I make one change. Instead of putting the screws in for depth adjustment, I drill all the way through and use allen head screws that I can adjust from the top so that I don't have to remove the blade to adjust. If the blade fits tightly into its well, it does not rock. If it is loose, you can drill partway through and put in a plug for the allen head screw to ride on. I just drill the hole as the tap size for the screws and make the threads in the wood. Have never had a problem.
One other thing that I did was to make a small brass drill guide in order to get the holes lined up perfectly. You can make a shave in a couple of hours more or less. I have a small and a large blade that I switch between different handles as the mood strikes me.
