Hand Tools Thread "Name"

Stephen Shepherd is the Alpha hand tool user here on WC. I challenge him to come forward with a name for the hand tool forum (since he asked for it a few weeks ago) that would give those who prefer quiet to buzz (or roar) a place to feel comfortable.

Tom Sweeney dubbed WC "Ellis Island" on the messages board. I really like that! ! ! Maybe this thread is the "Quiet Cove" at Ellis Island.

C'mon, Stephen, and Neanders. Let's get creative and give Ellis something to do (Grin).

For the record: I found WoodCentral before I found any other woodworking forums and have been here at least a coupla years, maybe longer. However, it wasn't long before I found the Pond, especially N'ander Haven, and the Porch list. I consider WoodCentral my spiritual home even though I've travelled elsewhere.

How about

How about "Hand Tool Zealots"? It has a certain something, no?

Maybe a nice pungent acronym something along the line of Al Capp's "SWINE" (Students Wildly Indignant about Nearly Everything) of the late '60's. Let 'em know you care.

How about "Woodworkers Inimicable to Machines With Power Sources"?

It's a start.

Just guessing here, but having had some modest exposure (very modest exposure) to Forrest's sense of humor, I'm thinking he was suggesting the acronym be WIMPS. I have the impression (and he should speak for himself) that he is ocassionally (at the least) amused (again, at the least) by some of the views of some (have I used enough qualifying words here?) who post their views on hand tool-related matters.

If you haven't see Forrest's posts, however, they are (in my view) frequently funny and always informative.

Full Chisel Hi, I�m Stephen Shepherd, I have been doing woodwork for a living for over 40 years but my interest began at an early date. In first grade (1954) I won an art contest and first prize was a �Handy Andy� toolbox, I wonder what that would be worth today. While studying Philosophy at the University of Utah I got a job as an apprentice Cabinetmaker at a large cabinet shop in Salt Lake, all European craftsmen from Germany and England. A friend owned an antique shop and I started repairing furniture and collecting old tools. I also attended a vocational school in an apprenticeship cabinetmaking program, which they no longer offer. When I became a journeyman I started working for museums in the West and Midwest and opened my own shop in 1979 doing antique restoration and traditional woodwork. I have written several articles and books on woodworking and hope to have my first book Shepherds� Compleat Early Nineteenth Century Woodworker originally published in 1981, published in paperback in 2004. Hide Glue - Historical & Practical Applications was published in 2009, as was the reprint of the 1824 Universal Receipt Book. In 2011 I published Shellac, Linseed Oil, & Paint-Traditional 19th Century Woodwork Finishes. I found WoodCentral in 1999; I wish this had been around when I started. I enjoy the discussions and the chats and am fortunate enough to be able to host the Tuesday Night Hand Tool Chat. I have yet to meet personally anyone I have met on line, with the exception of Barb, Dan, Mike, Bruce and John P. but many of the people on WoodCentral I consider friends. Stephen Shepherd

I'll put in a vote for Hand Tool Haven. It limits the amount of additional typing for Ellis (doesn't even need the delete key) and I certainly consider this a haven after being cast adrift in the stormy waters of the world wide web with out a compass to guide me.
