Hi Dick -

Thanks for the post. Glad to meet you. We've got a few (former, now) Ponders who focus on hand tools who've gotten together from time to time. Usually just to break bread at some local eatery and to BS about hand tools.

Love to add you to the list for the next one. They're not regularly scheduled or anything. Probably our next one won't be til this summer as we just had one such gathering.

... the past two Augusts! Gees, kids these days just don't remember anything! OK, OK already, I know I know, we only gathered twice and a trend takes at least three :~) Hi Dave, I guess this is the �in-coming� processing line :~) It�s nice to see familiar faces as well as friendly new ones (Hi Dick).

Good luck with your saw sharpening Dave. Just make sure you get a beater flea market saw before starting on the 25 cent find. Do you have a handle shape yet?

Great to hear from you!

Yes, after the one this coming summer, I guess it would be fair to call them "regular." The reason I didn't specify a time is so we could once again have the flexibility to schedule it so as to let you play hookie and save you from the boredom of your conference by whisking you way (at least for part of an afternoon and evening) to swap stories about hand tools and wood.

You, William - and now Dave Anderson - have become our favorite pretexts for getting together locally. For which I - for one - am grateful. Thanks.

P.S. I've taken on some non-woodworking free-time activities that saddly will sharply reduce my shop time to pretty close to nill until mid-May. So, the sharpening and new handle may have to wait until then. Still hoping, however, to make PATINA in March (that's next month!!). Hint. Hint.

I was using a lot of hand tools when I worked for the Washington Woodworking Co. in DC in the late 40's and early 50's, but today, if it can be done with power that's for me. I gave up woodworking as a way to make a living and spent 42 years as an auto mechanic, but have always had a shop in my basement.

Yes, let me know if the clan is getting together some time. If possible, I would like to attend and meet everyone.

You'll fit right in. I don't think there's a purist among us. We just like hand tools and use them when they make sense in our particular situations.

Never been to a PATINA event yet, though it�s sure not for lack of trying. I think for next time I�m going to start out saying and planning NOT to attend. If my luck holds, that will get foiled and I can go.
