Traded a guy in Co seven "turned wet to 1" walls and dried" black walnut bowl blanks for some chunks of mesquite. Just cut the smaller piece. Cut off a chunk for turning and the rest resawed for boxes. 2 at 1/4" and 7 at 3/8". First pic is dry, second pic is misted with water to get an idea what it will look like after an oil finish. I think I got the better end of the deal.

I got a few chunks of mesquite from a guy who used it for grilling meat. That stuff is high in silica I think. It is hard on edge tools.

But not as bad as a number of others. Worst is tear out, the wood tends to be a bit weaker in tension than you expect, and the grain tends to go every which way, so planing or turning can get interesting in their own ways.
