Door-Making Router Bit Set?

For those who use bit sets to make the rails and styles:
When cutting the mating profile on the ends of the styles,
a) Do you wait to cut the profile on the long face?
b) How do you prevent chip-out when cutting the cross-grain?

I usually like to cut the cope profile first on a wide enough board to get two rails plus a little. If i have do a single, I use a square push block that supports the back edge. If it trailing edge already has the profile then the push block needs to have the cope cut into it. Keep the fence gap as narrow as possible.

I use a backer board when doing end grains.

I made a quick and dirty coping sled.
Would have been nicer but did not have any embossed Corinthian leather or gold leaf on hand. :-)
