I gather you are a turner. Shows in the legs. Like the way you oriented the grain to frame the drawers with the pattern in the legs.

The wide side piece is common in some Period furniture designs and they are usually cracked. I think the potential for cracking is much less now days. Modern KD lumber is more stable and your piece won't live 8 years in somebody's barn before being reestablished back in a house.

Lovely! Very good choice of wood and neat work. I want to make something similar for my daughter. She's going to buy a flat in Germany soon and I want to give a housewarming gift that I made. Could you please tell what kind of wood did you use?

I had a stash of 8/4 curly maple (red maple) that I once thought I was going to build a Maloof style rocker and it just never happened. Decided the wood was perfect for this project. I was able to use book matched pieces for the tops as I had one board wide enough for that.

I'm an amateur photographer and someone asked me if I took that picture. It is really close to impossible to take a photo of such clarity. This is actually a print of a piece by one of my favorite artists, Greg Mort. He is known for his paintings that include the night sky. He used to be the official artist for NASA. It is a wonderful piece of work.

Thanks all for the nice comments. I have only made furniture for me and my family, otherwise I am really a turner. Still like to do flatwork once in a while.

Finding a finish that results in maple bright and "white" is a challenge. The oil finishes are usually yellow and I have not found a waterborne acrylic that is bright.

I actually used oil based poly for this. the sides and legs I used a couple coats of wipe on Poly. The tops I used several coats (4 maybe?) of brush on poly sanding between coats then finished by sanding with 400 grit followed by buffing with 3m mesh (I have a good quality used by automotive industry that is yellow, not sure of the grit) then followed by the white mesh that hardly has any grit.

Probably, but this was a Shaker inspired design and I went with a Shaker type turned knob. And I'm a turner, so I had to go with that.
