I have a friend in Hospice His family has asked my help in liquidating his tools. They are stored in a storage unit and have been a number of years since his failing health. I would appreciate your opinion on what a ; 510 Shopsmith with standard accessories, with jointer, bandsaw, and belt sander? In almost new condition. Package price. I understand he got sick soon after purchased

Look at your local Craigslist to see what is being asked for comparable items.
If you have the invoices maybe list for half or 60% of the original cost.

Maybe fifteen or twenty years ago I got a Shopsmith for next to nothing. Cleaned it up and resold it. On the advice or the local WoodCraft store that sold them at the time I asked $800 and got it, but some of it was in trade.
A friend has bought and sold several and gets maybe $500 for them depending on condition and accessories.
As you know, people either love Shopsmith or they don't.

Given that the money spent on storage fees falls in the "sunk costs" category,
the value today is $0.00.
Apparently, the average cost of a storage of a 5X5 storage unit is $75 to $140 per month, let say a $100.
Therefore the value next month will be negative $100, month after that negative $200, etc, etc.
The best way to maintain its value is to stop paying storage fees, so either move out of storage or abandon it.

We are cleaning out his storage shed. Need to sell the equipment. He is dying. Are you suggesting we pay someone to take it?
