Was wrapping up a plumbing disaster of a couple weeks ago - replacing a buried shutoff valve with a proper valve rather than a gate valve. Had to order parts a couple times, and the last time I remembered to order some copper pipe caps for making a quick little double boiler glue pot:
I knew I was saving all those scraps of copper wire for a reason!

Looks great. What are you going to use for heat?
Does the copper have any negative effect on the glue? I am guessing not since copper pots have been the go to material for years. The fungicide effect of the copper may be beneficial. I notice my bottle of liquid hide glue is beginning to smell like a dead rabbit.
As an aside, I built a elaborate copper trellis years ago. It is beautiful but not a big hit with the plants. Nothing seems to thrive on it.

I have a few little hot plates that were for keeping your coffee warm and that kind of thing. Using them for hide glue without the water jacket they work great but you have to keep a close eye on the glue to keep it from boiling - the plates don't get hot enough to boil water but glue appears to boil at a much lower temp. Idea is to get the glue started without the jacket, then once it's ready to use, drop the smaller cup into the frame (water pre-heated of course). We'll see if that works.
I have other caps that I tinned with plumbers solder, I thought I would try these without to see if there's any adverse effect on the glue. I doubt there will be though.
