I like to work with the 8oz better than 16. I used to buy gallons to refill them, but I’ve slowed down so use 16oz to fill the smaller ones.

When I’ve got a lot that I’m trying to get glued and into the clamps within the open window of time, I squeeze out the glue, then lay the bottle on its side so I won’t have to wait for it to slowly run up to the spout when I go to use it again. I had a hard time training my builder friend that is always needing me to help him with something not to try to help by standing it up for me.

By the gallon for me, I do mostly segmented turning and that uses a lot of glue

JL, glues dry out through the constant and frequent use of a bottle. I only open a bottle to decant some into a Tupperware container, which can be sealed by its lid.

I find that the glue in the container lasts and lasts. The small amount seen here could last a few weeks with ease.

The glue is spread with a silicon brush. Allow to dry and the glue peels off for re-use. I also made a bunch of UHMW spreaders.

I glue up LOTS of wig stand kits for my turning club. I buy 2 gallons at a time.

how to reuse old bottles

This hits close to home, I've got 5-6 old bottles that have collected as they have either run low of were forgotten during freezing weather and are now suspect, necesitating a new purchase... Do you guys clean out the smaller bottles to refill? Not sure how I would even get the old crud out of the bottle.

I probably use little compared to a lot of you and I've had some bottles of various PVA types that were years old. If there is enough to consider checking, I make a few test joints and after 24 hrs hit them with a hammer. If they break and it is the wood that breaks rather than the joint, I use it.

I just buy the titebond 1 in 32 ounce bottles that I replace at the end of the year. I might use 1/4 to half of that. I just use it for private musical instrument and furniture projects that require that kind of glue. I have a lot of other glues as well.

I find the 32 ounce size is the best value. I replace it every year in case I make an instrument to sell. Then I want fresh Titebond 1 glue because it is the only one I trust, other than LMII glue, for warranty reasons. The excess can end up in kid crafts, or if I do a large lamination project.

If you want your glue to stay fresh relatively indefinitely, give it some bloxigen/argon and dispense it like they pull liquid into a syringe, which is to say, never draw the gas. I use dose syringes for that purpose. You will thereby have a blivet of gas over the glue, and it will last and last.

I get titebond extend by the gallon. I have a couple of 16 oz "dispenser" bottles for use on projects. I fill those, then decant the rest of the gallon into a variety of small bottles -- Powerade and BBQ sauce bottles mostly, all thoroughly washed out -- filled up to the top to leave the smallest possible head space. As I use glue in projects, I top off the dispenser bottles. I use a gallon in about a year and a half, so it doesn't age out.

I get the titebond extend on line. When I see it at one of the local woodworking stores, there's always a ring of cured glue around the top inside of the jug. They must sell it very often.

I live in the high desert in New Mexico. Its very arid here, often 2 or 3 per cent humidity. So liquids dry out quickly. I try to buy whatever I think I will use in the coming year.

When I was doing lots of laminations, that was a 5 gallon bucket.

Now that I'm making small pieces with mortise and tenon and dovetails its usually something in the 8-12 oz size.

Though with the Cover-19 around and my advanced age, I'm not buying any green bananas, as the saying goes.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to buy some glue soon!

I have been using a thoroughly cleaned mustard dispenser. The small nozzle at the tip dispenses a reasonable amount of glue and when pressure is released, the glue in the tip is sucked back into the bottle. So far, the tip has not been clogged.
