You could make a profile and then when logged in you can browse your machine to upload the picture file. There are size limitations so you will have to do a little file editing to scale it down to less than 100 kb.
The other way is a link like you were doing. I had to go to another file hosting service because I couldn't figure out google's photo app. Nowhere could I find anything like embed codes. Using ibb now and it seems pretty straightforward.
The code you want is usually called something like BBCode and it looks like: [*img]https://i.ibb.co/TMPcqzK/federaltableprint.jpg" border="0" alt=""> (I put the * in so it wouldn't put my photo in rather than the code syntax)
Walt, our system doesn't have a profile for you, unless it's under some other username. You can tell that you are not registered if your name in your message doesn't show up as a blue hyperlink.
The solution is to create a profile. Then you'll get the text formatting and photo uploading privileges.
Let's take care of that first, and then I'll walk you through the photo processing part if you still need some help. Our FAQs file has answers to all this stuff, too, in case you hit any snags.
You were greeted by your name because you posted a message. Our system remembers that username and email address. But it is not a registered post, as you have no profile on file with that name and email address.
To "log out" as it were is to clear active logins in your browser. The forum software used by WC seems to assume you will always want to be logged in. Only trouble is that clears all saved logins, which can be annoying if you are not in the habit of logging in to everything, every time.
However, since you have no profile as Walter Ahlgrim, I think you would be able to log in as walta still by making a new post and putting walta in the "Your Name" field and then entering the password for that account at the bottom and clicking "save password".

How about just clear the Woodcentral cookies, would that work?
In Firefox, for example, go to Tools/Options/Privacy&Security/Cookies and Site Data/Manage Data, then search for woodcentral, select, and delete.
Doubt it. Back in the early days I remember clearing cookies would kill all active logins, but I haven't seen that for ages. Now login info and autofill of login fields are separate (based on observation as an end user, by no means a technical expert!). Presumably this is necessary to maintain the convenience of cross device synching without losing the ability to clear caches and cookies for the reduction of buggy browsing.
I notice you have a valid profile as "walta", although I'm not sure when you created it. Please go to your Set Preferences link and type "walta" in as your username and "removethis@sbcglobal.net" as your email address. I've given you a temporary password of "walta123" that should get you in and reset your cookie to the new profile.
For future reference, if your name shows up in black type instead of blue hyperlink when you post, it means that that particular username is not a registered profile and you will not get the formatting and file uploading options. Also, you can change your registered email address and password from Set Preferences, but you can't delete or change your registered profile name. For that, you'll still need to contact me. Email works better than posting your question on the board because I'll get to it sooner.
I hope this helps explain things. I know it's complicated but this software was written over 20 years ago, and under the hood it's pretty arcane. Logically it works, but if I could find something that threads discussions similarly, I'd have switched over long ago. Sorry.
Let me know if you have any other difficulties and I'll get you through them. 'd email this to you instead of posting it here, but I'm pretty sure the address you're using goes to a dead-letter box somewhere. That's one of the perils of using decoy email addresses. The bad old days of bots and email scams are long gone, so I wouldn't worry about protecting your email identity here, but it's your choice.
