A grocery trip to a Fry's that was jam packed with people filling up entire shopping carts. Cleaning supplies thinned out and TP virtually gone.

People are buying TP as if toilet paper prevented Covid-19. Go figure.

Cancelling sports did get everyone's attention.

I'm befuddled. What does toilet paper have to do with the covid-19 virus? Our local small town grocery was wiped out yesterday. Not that I needed to buy any. I have a few rolls in the cupboard. I don't see any connection. Can someone enlighten me? How is hoarding tp going to help in a pandemic?

Madness here too. I went by Harbor Freight to pick up a hardware storage tray yesterday and the Food City next door looked like a riot was going on. Hundreds of parking spaces there and not one free and people queued out the door waiting to even get a shopping cart. On the way home I stopped at the Kroger up the road to get a can of lentil soup for Mom and a jar of jam for me and it was just as bad but luckily I didn't need a cart or basket for that but the checkout queues ran pretty much the width of the store. Oh, and there was no soup to be had except, for some reason, cream of mushroom, chicken rice, and one can of minestrone (I bought that one for Mom). Luckily I keep the house pretty well stocked with everything so if we had to stay home for two weeks we'd still eat although the diet might get a bit odd toward the end.

Lots of TP already in the hall closet but somehow I feel an urge to go buy more (just kidding, I really do have a lot of it).

That part mystifies me, too!

It's to get through a quarantine period. The virus has an incubation period of 2-14 days that may be symptomless. But, if one contracts a mild case, they may be contagious for several weeks after that--and their immediate family would have to self-quarantine as well. I'd venture to guess most people don't have 6-8 weeks of supplies, including TP, on-hand at home.

...dry white hard whole wheat berries (always grind my own, buy in buckets 24 pounds each - makes great pancakes and good bread). I resent having to buy 24 pounds, but smaller quantities of the same brand cost twice as much and it already costs more than milled flour. I guess that stuff is a prepper target. I only order a bucket when I run another one out.

...folgers instant coffee - snobs look away, I like it on the weekends. It's out of stock.

Well, I guess people are going to hoard wheat?

I guess I"ll have to get off of my duff and go to the club to get the coffee, don't need TP, and the wheat will have to wait until the run on it is over (can't imagine it really lasting that long).

Here's the odd part with the TP - COVID-19 has a comparable symptom list in various places. Norovirus (seasonal flu?) - diarrhea, common. Covid-19 - diarrhea, uncommon.

When I was single, I used to run out from time to time - it wasn't hard to find a workaround.

For those who didn't stock up on TP, and decide to send paper towels, and what ever they decide to use in a dire situation, down the toilet. Sounds crazy to most, but to those less informed about plumbing I'm sure it will happen. It took me years and years to convince the women in this house to not flush down their hygiene products. Every time I had to get Roto Rooter out, I asked if they were going to reimburse me for the $75. Finally that stopped after the Roto Rooter guy supplied a visual aid from what he brought out of the main line.

I know how to get back at TP hoarders
