On the picture of the back you can see 4 webs I left to fix the finial to.

Nice idea!
I have a rotary table for my mill and have used it to make and repair a few things and to layout things with critical angles, but never to machine something decorative like that.
Hey, have you ever turned metals on the wood lathe with woodturning tools such as spindle gouges and skews? I've turned quite a bit of aluminum and brass and a very little bit of steel with a HSS scraper. Turning the steel with a the scraper made a zillion needle-like splinters and I had to resharpen often.

The lid is made from aluminum. I kept a couple metal lathes and some other machines when I retired from toolmaking. Never tried turning anything but wood on the woodlathe.
