Not exactly a Fine woodworking tip but here is it is in all of its splendor. While sanding a stack of drawers last week I found myself swapping out the disks a few times. The labeling on these Fe$tool pads is faint and after a few minutes of sanding I could not see the grit size and had to whap them on the bench in order to read the size. I was getting more dust on the bench from cleaning these than from sanding. I labeled the disk with a marker and problem solved.

Been doing that for many years. Too many round pads aren't even labelled from the factory.

I don't know why I never thought of that before last week. I've had a random orbit sander for over 20 years.

Virgil, been doing that for awhile. Especially as the disks get just a little bit worn, it becomes harder to tell the differences between grits. Thanks for reminding me to do that. Jim

I do the same thing for small squares of sandpaper I use for detail hand sanding. I tear full sheets into 3 x 3 rectangles, write the grit on the back, and organize a stack of many grits, sequentially, in a spring clamp in a butter tub.
