I did that about two weeks ago with my 1HP Craftex (Grizzly clone, probably GI as well)

It was an easy fit without any modifications.

Performance is notably better. It didn't do that with the bag filter.

Mark, I did this several years ago. The DC is a generic 2 hp, as is the 1micron filter. This addition did significantly reduce the fine dust in the workshop ...

There is a Super Dust Deputy into a large paint tin (this has a sealing lock) collecting the chips.

These cyclones reduce suction, so keep your hose lengths short.

I took this a step further and replaced the lower bag (which is a royal pain to replace/empty each time) with another cannister (using the upper section of the bag as a connector) ...

There are blast gates for the table saw, jointer-thicknesser/planer, and bandsaw.

The set up does a reasonable job, but it is still only 2 hp and the 5" hoses are not as slick as pipe. My next upgrade is the dust control.

My DC is located outside in a small open closet. Don't really concern myself with the efficiency or microns of the filter bag as anything that escapes is outdoors. I have my lower bag sitting in a 30 gallon trash can to make it easier to handle and less likely to get snagged and punctured. It is something of a pain because I fail to check it and it over fills. It never occurred to me to just attach the bag to the drum, using the bag as a sleeve. I am wondering if this would be better.

I think what I really need is some sort of sensor that tells me to empty the bag earlier. The drum full is pretty heavy. Maybe it would be better if I developed the habit of emptying it when it is about half full.

Yes. I generally get very little dust in the DC's bin .... and what goes there is because the dust going through the Super DD is forgotten and allowed to fill up its bin. More than two-thirds, and it heads to the DC.

I've thought about doing that for years now but somehow never got around to it. Is there any good single place to go shopping for the parts needed for such a swap? I'd need something to accept a 5"(?) pipe/hose from the blower on my existing unit which is a really odd old unit which has the blower sitting on top of a 55-gallon plastic drum which is supposed to collect chips/dust but which does not really do the job so they wind up in the bags where they are a beast to clean out. The blower is really quite powerful so the capacity of the filter drum would need to suit it to avoid making things even worse.

How about a Window? In a previous set up I cut a hole in my Bin and made a small window out of clear plexi glass at the 3/4 full level of the bin. Makes its easy to see when the bin is getting close to being full. Not as slick as an Alarm but cheap and cheerful !
