Small hinges

Building a production run of gift boxes. Cutting the dovetails on my CNC router got 48 boxes built and ready to install the hinges. Can not get the dollars for my boxes to justify the expense of Brusso and the Rockler hinges are poorly made and the screws are JUNK! A very frustrating day of broken screws
Suggestions on a good quality hinge at a fair price ? I have ordered a better quality screw and hoping this will help! Thanks!

Install the hinges with steel screws the same size as the brass screws. Then remove the steel screws and carefully install the brass screws.

Drill the optimum sized holes with a number drill and lube the brass screws.

Ace Hardware is your friend. They have solid brass hinges 11/2" and 2" in broad and narrow size which have steel pins and are well made - almost no play in the joint. For the money - around $4 - I think it is the best value on the market. Look at the end of the hinge and you will see no gap between the pin and the hinge leaf. Sizes below and above those are more typical stamped construction.

Maybe next time around... I really like Lee Valley's hinge selection (though I'm afraid I DO NOT like their new website design - the old was better organized).
For the top notch box, they have an extruded brass hinge that is very high quality and while expensive, not in the crazy Brusso territory.
For inexpensive, your local hardware is probably the place to go if you want solid brass. I do like LV's brass plated steel hinge to though, for a very small hinge the steel can be a good idea.

Glad it met your needs. The screws are brass plated steel, which are more forgiving. That and the price point make these a winner. BTW, do you use the hinge installation that creates a stop for the lid?

I built a jig and use a small plunge router to route a mortise for the hinges. Some boxes I just face mount the hinges and use a small chain stop as well. Thanks again!
