my shop is in lower NY state and we are still able to spray solvent based lacquer, but it is getting harder to continue this way. We use Fuji 4 stage HVLP. So I want to move us to WB lacquers/CV. I would appreciate help on how this is different from spraying solvent and what differences I need to be watching out for. We will practice first but knowing in advance what to look out for always helps. Also, if need be we'll buy new guns but would like to continue to use the Fuji's non -bleeder. Thanks for your help.

Target Coatings may be close enough for a visit if they have a demonstration area. I stopped performing my own spraying several years ago but never had an issue with Target products.

Wet film thickness will be your greatest concern, stain compatibility second, full cure time third. New products are shortening full cure times, but traditionally way longer than solvent based. Dry to touch is quick, full cure is long. Edit; I'd better clarify that my experience has some time on it, so could easily be off on the curing.

Can't address your comparison question because I have not sprayed solvent based coatings - only the WB ones.

Target Coatings is the brand I have used - and been pleased with. The only comment I have is that Target's CV needs to be sprayed thicker than most sprayed coatings. Target lacquers have been trouble-free for me - pretty much work no matter what I have done.

Room and materials temp may be more critical with WB.

For the past several years I've been using a gravity feed HVLP 'conversion' gun that I got from Jeff Jewitt at Homestead Finishing. With a 1.2mm tip it works great for Target EM6000. A 1.5mm tip also works great for Em8000cv and also the EM1000 sanding sealer. I think I paid around $250.00 for the gun kit with three tips.
