That "gift wrapping" for a bottle of wine is a step up from a used Amazon box! A clever idea, and, a means to transferring storage from your place to somewhere else. We are heavily into this phase of life.

On the one hand the best joinery is not necessary for such a project, but on the other, such projects are a low risk way of practicing and refining fine joinery, like for a desk or something. I like the divided door touch.

Hank, where did you get your piano hinges? I'm curious, as I really like what you have done with an ordinary "box" and am now thinking of Xmas gifts for wine-loving friends. Jim

Hi, Jim. Thanks for the compliments. I used piano hinges because the sides of the crate were so thin, I was afraid, I couldn't find a butt hinge narrow enough and with enough strength to do the job. Lee Valley has them in several sizes. I ordered the smallest size and the next-to-smallest size. ]Turned out that the smallest size was too small and the next-to-smallest size was perfect. Lee Valley also has quality brass screws. I was worried that I woulds break a bunch of the screws and have a mess, but the screws went in easily after pre-drilling and waxing. I didn't break a single one.

I hear you, Bill, on transferring storage venue out of my house. Kaye has saved just about everything we ever owned on the off chance Katherine might want it someday. We're not hoarders, but it feels that way sometimes. I wish Katherine would come get her canoe out of may shop.

BTW, I delivered the and case/cabinet this morning.It was a BIG hit!

I delivered the wine cases/cabinet to my daughter and son-in-law this morning. It was a BIG hit. Both loved it. I caught my daughter several times standing and admiring it with a smile on her face. it was well worth the effort.
