I have a Performax 16/32 that i believe is the Genesis of the Jet machine. (Jet bought the machine form Performax.) The reason I mention it is my understanding is the drum is not supposed to be parallel to the bed. The drum should be higher on the open end, one or two hundredths of and inch to avoid the gully. That means all the pieces are very slightly tapered, but you can reverse them creating a very slight crown and then hand sand.

Supermax is the remnants of the Performax company and still make similar sanders. I would look at them and Jet.

As an Aside, I also have a Grizzly dual drum sander. I can change the sandpaper on my Performax in under five minutes and it works reliably. On the Grizzly, their own literature indicates it's a two man job and it pretty much is. Not easy to do it by yourself I work alone. I changed to the hook and loop version but its still a B9TCH.

I've had both the Performax 16/32 and 22/44 for years and I can't imagine how they could be used in a public shop unless you buy stock in the sandpaper company. I'm careful to take light passes on mine to prevent burning but that won't happen in a group environment. I'd look at one of the smaller open end 15" belt sanders instead. These machines are meant to be babied a bit to keep them working properly.
