Could be pretty gaudy but that may be just what you are looking for. I'd suggest that you cut a mockup of one corner, or at least a portion of one, to see what it looks like with finish on it.

I've made a few Shaker-inspired blanket boxes and chest-on-drawer projects and have never used any wood softer than white pine. Also, that amount of red cedar (assuming you are talking of "aromatic cedar" or juniper rather than "real" red cedar) could be way too aromatic. The most I've ever done along that line was to make the bottom of the box or box and drawer of juniper and even then blankets stored in my biggest one can hold the odor for a very long time.

It sounds like you really don't want opinions so I will provide one. Forget the two wood combination. The picture I find in my mind is not attractive.

I've put samples of both together and they are consistent with the Garrett Hack article " The Right way to Contrast" FWW 211. Nice choice.

I'd suggest you look at the David Barron dovetail guide and Paul Sellers Utube on the "knife wall" for great hand cut dovetails.

Been thinking bout using spruce for the ends and solid /red Cedar for the remainder.

Thru Dove tailing the corners will show the white Spruce and Red Cedar inter-mingling colors.

Any opinions thoughts about this, brig'm on.

I built one in a similar mix of woods (Jarrah = Red Cedar, and Curly Marri = Spruce). However, the Jarrah was for accents and the case remained a single wood (Curlie Marri).

Every side, including the base, was dovetailed. The Jarrah base contained a hidden drawer ...
