Sorta OT landscape wood or block?1

I have to build up an area of my side yard. Being frugal, I would prefer to use pressure treated 6x6. I am putting up a shed in my side yard - which has a bit of slope. I could do it with three courses of wood 16’ long and about 16” high.
My other choice would be Pavestone retaining wall block which would cost roughly twice as much.

I built retaining walls using square posts on 4' centers backed by vertical 2x lumber
A proper retaining wall has sand/fine rock footing and has to be leveled. When...that takes forever!
Check the quality and spec of the treated lumber. There are so many quickie retaining walls that are rotting.
How long do you plan on living there?

If you want to do it once, use stone. If you don't mind doing it over again, use wood. That is unless you plan on moving in 10 years. Then someone else will rebuild it with stone.

I have built many low retaining walls out of reclaimed railroad ties. Can't think of one that lasted less than 20 years. Not sure those manufactured block will last a lot longer. At my age, twenty years is a life time.

I'm with Dick. I like the idea of useing stone. You can sometimes get it cheap from a landscaper that is trying to get rid of it and only wants delivery costs.

I try to not look in the 'free' listing on Craigslist and FB Marketplace. That leads to me bringing home more 'stuff' to store.
I've seen stone and blocks up for grabs because people don't want to haul it to the transfer station or dump.
